Groups are an easy way to gather individuals around specific research topics, disciplines, locations, institutions and so forth. Hypertope Groups works in a similar way to Yahoo groups, though redesigned for academic needs. Therefore it is an efficient way to route information as well as to stay updated with what is happening within a specific research area or a discipline etc.
Anyone can start a new group around his/her research area. It’s 100% free. People can join and invite others to join their groups.
Each group gets it’s own Forum, Mailing List and a Calendar of upcoming events and deadlines. People can post a variety of content types inside their groups, and the subscribers will receive it in their e-mails. Additionally, once you are a member of a group you will be able to route your posts to your groups as well.
There are 8 types of groups that may be created: Regional, Institute, Department, Course/Module, Alumni, Interest Group, Research Group, Center of Study. The most common type of groups would probably be Interest Groups and Research Groups.
