I'm currently working to get my PhD in the laboratory of Dr. J. Lawrence Marsh at the University of California, Irvine. We are studying Huntington Disease using a fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) model. Specifically, I am studying the effect of the ubiquitin-like protein Nedd8 on HD pathology; and in a separate project I'm studying the effect of huntingtin fragment length on toxicity. When I finish my PhD, I intend to do a post-doc in San Diego, where my wife is doing her medical residency in the combined Family Medicine and Psychiatry program at UCSD. I hope to orient my future research toward psychiatric issues, and ultimately work in tandem with my wife exploring new ways to treat mental illness.
